Dozens of residents filled the Allen Building nearly to capacity at the September 3 City Council meeting. They wanted answers about a sharp rise in Power Cost Adjustment (PCA) charges on their utility bills and a delayed, six-week meter-reading cycle.
Citing the National Weather Service, the Journal forecast mostly sunny, dry days with highs in the mid to upper 90s, peaking near 98 on Saturday. A 20% chance of showers and storms returns Sunday night into Monday.
The grocery is moving down the street into the former Brookshire’s building in Shoppers Village. The current store closes September 28–30 to move inventory and reopens at the new location on Thursday, October 1.

A stolen vehicle led deputies on a chase from Gum Springs Road that crashed south of Winn Correctional Center, and two men ran into the woods. One was caught right away, and the second was captured around 8 a.m. Tuesday after an overnight search.
Winn Parish 4-H, the Master Gardeners, LSU AgCenter agents and other volunteers spent a Saturday making improvements at the Winn Farmers Market, with help from WoodmenLife Winnfield Chapter 107.
Former Winnfield City Judge Keith Gates told the Kiwanis Club about his run for district attorney, pledging to focus on violent and repeat offenders and to build up the office’s cash reserve. The club plans to hear from fellow candidate Jacque Derr next.
A concert supporting 7-year-old Boston Pace, who is being treated for an aggressive brain tumor, is set for Saturday, October 3, from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Lagniappe Event Center in Alexandria. General admission is $25.
